Description
The site lies within the Lydstep Head to Tenby Burrows Site of
Special Scientific Interest. The site is of special interest for
its sea-cliff vegetation and for its numerous rare and scarce
plants, including five nationally rare species.
The cliffs provide nest sites for Guillemot and Razorbill. A pair
of chough nest on the Headland.
Thrift, Spring Squill, Kidney Vetch and Wild Thyme are among the
flowers that can be seen in spring.
The site is currently grazed to keep back scrub vegetation and
encourage maritime heathland to flourish.
The area is popular for climbing, Mother Carey’s kitchen
is most commonly used. It should be noted that agreed climbing
restrictions are in place, visitors should refer to the notices
on site and the National Park ‘Agreed Cliff Climbing Restrictions’
leaflets. A ‘no bolting’ ethic covers all the sea
cliffs in the area. ‘Gardening’ destroys vulnerable
crevice and ledge communities and must be avoided.
The old quarry to the east of the site is suitable for abseiling,
groups wishing to use the area should contact the National Trust.
Belay stakes are in place on the site but permission must be gained
from the National Trust before putting in any new stakes.
Coasteering routes have been agreed for use around the cliffs,
new groups wishing to use the site should contact the National
Trust. Any new routes should be discussed with the National Trust.
The site is popular for fishing off the cliffs, care should be
taken when approaching fishing sites and any tracks leading to
the sites should be used rather than using new routes.
