Description
Part of the site lies within the Deer Park, Marloes Site of Special
Scientific Interest (SSSI) and the whole site lies within the
Skomer Marine Nature Reserve (which extends to the high tide line
and covers the marine area). It contains features of both geological
and biological interest.
It supports nationally important lichen and botanically rich ant-hills
are abundant.
Chough feed on the open vegetation and the foreshore is used by
breeding seals.
The harbour is used as an embarkation point for boats to and around
Skomer, see ‘Coast to Coast’ or Tourist Information
Centres for details of sailing times.
It is also a popular launch site for diving groups.
The walled Deer Park was part of the St. Bride’s Estate,
the wall itself is part of the SSSI, it runs parallel to the iron-age
embankment on the western side of the channel formed by glacial
meltwater. The channel then forms the harbour of Martin’s
Haven.
The Deer Park is also a Scheduled Ancient Monument.
Important Information
The site is owned by The National Trust and their byelaws apply,
visitors must comply with these at all times.
Vehicles launching boats must be left clear of the access road
to the harbour; they should be left in the car park after launching.
The Deer Park is grazed; dogs should be kept under control at
all times.
Fires should not be lit and camping is not allowed other than
on designated sites.
Cycling is not allowed other than on roads and bridleways.
Visitors should be aware that the coast path can pass close to
the cliff edge and care should be taken.
All those using the tidal zone should be aware of its movements
for the day and be aware that under certain tidal and weather

applies around the islands.
Those using the Skomer Marine Nature Reserve should follow the
code of conduct provided by the Countryside Council for Wales
in its ‘user guide’ to the reserve.
